How to Get a Driving License in Pune

The first step towards obtaining a Permanent Driving License is to procure a Learner’s License. With this Learner’s License you can drive your vehicle while accompanied by a person who has a Permanent Driving License. Now there are few documents that are required to be submitted at the RTO (i.e. Regional Traffic Office). You need to carry both the original documents (for verification) and the photocopies of the same (for submission at RTO). The documents needed are:

  • Two Photographs of the applicant.
  • An address proof: can be ration card, voter identification card, electricity bill, etc.
  • An age proof: can be birth certificate or X standard certificate.
  • Medical certificate (form no 1 A duly filled).
  • Form no. 2 duly filled.

The RTO will verify the required documents. After that a small test will be conducted to access your understanding of traffic rules and regulations, interpretation of signs, etc. If required the authorities at RTO can even take a written test. Once you pass the tests the Learner’s License will be issued in your name which will be valid for six months. Learner’s license can be reissued only once. One can apply for the same after completion of the first six months of the learner’s license. At the end of this term you can apply for Permanent Driving License. Keep note that you cannot apply for a Permanent License within 30 days of getting your Learner’s License.

Once you get Learner’s License you can apply for Permanent Driving License within 6 months. To do so again you’ll have to produce required documents, their original copies as well as photocopies:

  • Three photographs of the applicant.
  • Registration Book of the vehicle.
  • Taxation Book of the vehicle.
  • Insurance papers of the vehicle.
  • PUC certificate of the vehicle.
  • All other vehicle papers.
  • Learner’s License.
  • Form no 4 duly filled.

After verification of all the documents, a driving test will be conducted. Once you pass the test and all the documents are verified properly you will be issued the Permanent Driving License. In case you cannot pass the test at the first attempt you can reappear for the same after 15 days. To avoid any discrepancy always provide valid and original documents to the authorities.
